15 December 2005, Walthamstow: Waltham Forest
Mayor, Cllr Milton Martin, presented seven hard
working Walthamstow residents with Institute of
Leadership Management (ILM) certificates following
their successful completion of a team-leading
course, funded by New Opportunities for Walthamstow
(NOW). All seven work for local voluntary groups
and will use their new skills to benefit the community
across a range of issues.
The recipients all gained an Introductory Certificate
in Team Leading via a course run by Rhema Management
and Training Consultants in Tottenham and funded
by NOW. This is the first ILM course run by Rhema
for Walthamstow residents.
The training is part of the NOW funded Changing
Perspectives, Changing Power (CPCP) project which
provides help, guidance and training to local
volunteer community groups seeking to help residents
in Walthamstow. CPCP has received over £900,000
in funding from NOW.
The recipients have gained skills that will help
them benefit the local community.

The Mayor, Cllr Milton Martin, said, "All
of the newly qualified team leaders should be
very proud of their achievements, not only will
they be of benefit to the individual organisations
but also to the community as a whole. The CPCP
programme has been a valuable resource for so
many people in Waltham Forest, congratulations
to all those involved."
Patricia Gurman ILM qualification recipient
said: "I found all aspects of the course
really useful, I feel more confident in leading
and being part of a team and have learned how
best to handle difficult situations and motivate
people. I would recommend it to anyone and hope
more people take up the opportunity that Changing
Perspectives, Changing Power has provided."
Marjorie Price, Rhema Management Training,
said: "It is the first time that this
course has run and we are really pleased to announce
that all the participants passed. The course will
be running again in January at the Limes and we
hope it will be equally successful."
