27 September 2005, Walthamstow: Melissa Miller, Manager the Limes Community and Children's Centre bravely took part in a sponsored sky dive to raise an impressive £1,050 for the Limes - the only inclusive facility in Walthamstow to cater for disabled and non disabled children and their families.

The Limes was made possible with £353,000 of capital funding from New Opportunities for Walthamstow (NOW) which renovated William Morris Hall where the centre is based. But, the Limes needs to raise £130,000 every year to run the facility which caters for 1200 disabled and non disabled children and their families from across the area.

The jump took place at the North London Parachute Centre where, after 30 minutes of training, Melissa leapt from a height of 12,000ft with her colleagues Helen Decruz David and Adam Fielden.

Describing the experience Melissa Miller said: "I was the last one to jump and the fear had really built up especially when I heard the scream's of those who went before me. But once you are out of the plane and you look down to see the world below, the sensation is truly amazing.

"The jump is just one of the ways we are raising money this year. The Limes provides such an amazing resource, but as a charity we have to fundraise to meet our running costs, which means we are looking for new and interesting ways to raise money. We especially welcome donations from local people or local businesses and if anyone wants to raise money for us we would be very pleased!"

The Limes hosts around 200 children a week during the school holidays, 300 family group members on Sundays and parent and toddler groups for up to 50 families. It costs only £5 for a family of any size to join and provides a safe and secure environment where disabled and non disabled children and their families can learn and play together.

How you can help.
If you, your family, or your business would like to help raise money for the Limes, or make a donation, please contact Melissa Miller 020 8509 8985.
